I believe that a positive, encouraging atmosphere is key to building confidence and achieving fluency. I primarily use a communicative language teaching approach. This means the focus is on practical, real-world communication. I integrate task-based learning, where students complete activities like role-playing, giving presentations, or discussing current events. This pushes them to use new vocabulary and grammar in meaningful contexts. My error correction is carefully timed to avoid interrupting the flow of conversation, with a mix of immediate feedback and a structured review at the end of each activity. The Structure of a Private Lesson
A typical 50-minute lesson is structured as follows:
Warm-Up & Review (5-10 minutes): We begin with a brief conversation or a quick review of the previous lesson's key concepts to activate prior knowledge.
New Concept & Guided Practice (20-25 minutes): We introduce a new grammar point, vocabulary set, or skill. This is followed by a guided practice activity where I provide scaffolding and support.
Freer Practice & Application (10-15 minutes): The student applies the new skill in a less structured, more communicative activity, such as a debate, a Q&A session, or a mock conversation.
Wrap-Up & Feedback (5 minutes): We review the main points of the lesson, and I provide constructive feedback on their performance, highlighting strengths and identifying areas for improvement. I also assign optional, personalized homework.
My Methodology as a Teacher
My core methodology is to act as a facilitator of learning, not just a lecturer. I focus on making the learning process relevant and engaging by using materials that align with the student's interests and professional life.
