In 2003, I spent six months living with an English family in Chichester, West Sussex, as part of an au pair program. Later, I lived in Dublin from 2005 to 2006 and again from 2008 to 2014. After that, I went for a long time without speaking to native English speakers, and my English gradually became rusty.

My lessons with Alexey were fully tailored to my needs. The main focus was on spoken English, while I also revisited the history of the English language and the cultures of English-speaking countries.

Having a clear structure and progression is very important to me, and Alexey’s approach followed that principle perfectly. We worked our way from simple to more complex topics, from familiar material to new concepts, and from the bigger picture to the finer details. This made it much easier to absorb and retain what we covered.

One of the most useful parts of the process was the regular progress checks. Alexey would sometimes throw in completely unexpected questions like, “How many pages of your notebook did you fill up in the last few lessons?” or “How many new words did you learn last week?” These little check-ins helped me stay consistent and motivated me to keep working systematically.

I also kept track of all my written assignments by word count, as well as the length of my recorded monologues. This gave me a clear picture of how my skills were developing and, more importantly, allowed me to see tangible results over time.

Thanks to the structure of the lessons and Alexey’s attention to detail, I was able to significantly rebuild my spoken English and feel confident using it in both everyday life and at work.

I turned to Alexey for help preparing for my final exams in 12th grade and getting ready for university. At first, I thought it was going to be the same old boring drill, like filling up notebooks, memorizing dry grammar rules, and so on.. but it turned out to be completely different. For five months, we had Zoom lessons, and every single one felt like it had been tailored specifically to me. We went through grammar down to the tiniest details, I finally stopped mixing up tenses, my vocabulary grew by 550 words, and writing became something I could actually do without struggling. Everything was structured, focused, and straight to the point… and by the time the exam came around, I felt confident. The result was 89/100 and the score I needed to get into university. At first, it all seemed like a pretty standard exam-prep routine. But then, toward the end, something new happened. Alexey started noticing some gaps in my speaking and decided to introduce me to another student, Polina. From that point on, our lessons became face-to-face, and by the second one, it was already clear that this was turning into something more than just studying. Polina and I became a real team. We were equally lazy and equally determined, laughed at our mistakes together, and always came up with ways to somehow get ourselves out of a tricky situation. We became partners in crime, brought together by the same goal. At first, it was just speaking practice. But little by little, the lessons turned into our own little world. We weren’t just doing exercises together anymore. We talked about what was going on in our lives, shared our thoughts and worries, complained, laughed, supported each other, and got genuinely excited about each other’s little victories. There were all these conversations that had nothing to do with English, yet somehow became just as important as the lessons themselves. Without even noticing it, we stopped feeling like two students who happened to study together and started feeling like actual friends. English was what brought us together, but it definitely wasn’t the only thing that kept us coming back!

I have known Alexey for over two years. He is an interesting person and teacher of Russian, Estonian and English. His lessons may seem unconventional, but that is exactly what makes them effective. I particularly appreciated how we combined theory with practice and worked on tasks that truly make you think and develop your skills.

During our lessons, we often worked with texts and real-life examples, practiced mini-monologues, analyzed language in context, and broke down complex points in a clear and understandable way. Alexey sets realistic goals and provides everything necessary to achieve them. At first, his high standards may seem intimidating, but they motivate real progress.

Thanks to our lessons, I have come to understand the importance of working consistently on a language while enjoying the process. I confidently recommend him to anyone who wants to study a language seriously and effectively with a personalized approach.

What I remember most about the lessons is how often we used English outside the usual textbook exercises. We called different places, discussed real situations and sometimes had to figure out on the spot what to say. At first it was uncomfortable, but after some time I stopped being afraid of speaking to strangers in English. That was probably one of the most useful things I learned!

I have been studying under Aleksei for three years, and it's been very pleasant experience. He is qualified with Cambridge CELTA certificate and C2 Proficiency and has been teaching for seven years. I really like that the teacher will never flatter you or sugarcoat things. On the contrary, he will tell you right where you currently are in terms of language competence. We started with general English, but now, I also take additional business and academic English classes. I would describe Aleksei as a committed professional with a caring heart.
